Research with us

Collaborate with our team in the development of applied research in power electronics, control systems, and energy conversion. Our activities combine modeling, design, and experimental implementation within the framework of funded projects and collaborations with academic and industrial institutions.

The group actively participates in research initiatives at both the national and international levels, promoting joint work with universities, research centers, and stakeholders from the productive sector.

Collaboration with International Universities and Institutions

We develop joint research projects with foreign universities focused on advancing technologies in power electronics and control.

One example of this type of collaboration is:

ANID/DFG Chile–Germany DFG220021
“Binary Neural Networks for Modular Multilevel Cascade Converters”
Participating institutions: Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Hochschule München (Germany), through the Agencia Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo de Chile (ANID) and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation).

This type of initiative enables direct collaboration between researchers, as well as the co-supervision of students and the development of joint publications.

Visiting Researchers and Research Stays

The group promotes the participation of researchers and students from other institutions through research stays, internships, and academic collaborations.

These opportunities allow for:

  • Integration into ongoing research projects
  • Exchange of specialized knowledge
  • Participation in experimental activities and validation
Industry Engagement

The group actively participates in industry engagement activities such as seminars, technical presentations, and prototype development, with the goal not only of disseminating results but also of creating new opportunities for collaboration in applied research.

These activities include:

Participation in technical seminars together with companies in the energy sector, such as ABB Electrification, and in electric mobility, such as Reborn Electric Motors, through activities focused on technology dissemination and discussion
Development of prototypes and experimental solutions, including work with second-life batteries in collaboration with startups such as Andes Electronics

Through these initiatives, the group seeks to build links with companies interested in addressing technological challenges through joint research, facilitating knowledge transfer and the development of solutions with practical application.

Study with us

Our group offers opportunities to engage in research and advanced training activities in power electronics, control systems, and energy conversion. The work carried out combines modeling, design, and implementation on real platforms, allowing students to participate actively in projects with an applied focus.

These activities are developed within the formal programs of the UC School of Engineering and in close collaboration with national and international universities, enabling the co-supervision of students and participation in joint research projects.

Graduate Programs

Students can join our research lines through the graduate programs of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile:

Master of Science in Engineering, Electrical Engineering Area
Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering Sciences, Electrical Engineering Area

Within these programs, students conduct research in areas such as power electronics, advanced control, applied neural networks, and energy conversion systems, participating in both theoretical development and experimental validation.

Undergraduate Research

There are also opportunities for undergraduate students to become involved early in research activities through the Undergraduate Research Program (IPre).

This program aims to promote and facilitate student participation in research projects, working together with professors and research teams from the School of Engineering, other UC faculties, and, in some cases, with external institutions connected to academia and industry.
